Geongyejeong in Geochang, Gyeongnam

Geochang is located in the inland of Gyeongsangnam-do, so when you think of tourist attractions in Geochang, you may first think of Susungdae, and you may also think of the recently installed Udusan Y-shaped suspension bridge.

According to Naver Encyclopedia, this Geongyejeong is a pavilion from the late Joseon Dynasty built on a rock in the Wicheon basin in Sangrim-ri, Geochang-eup. It is said that the Geochang Jang clan built this pavilion, Boeunjae, and a historical monument to commemorate the achievements of their ancestors, and named it Geongyejeong after the place in Jianzhou in China where their surname originated.

The neighboring Hamyang-gun has many pavilions such as Jeong Yeo-chang’s house, Geoyeonjeong, and Gunjajeong, and the scenery around Geongyejeong is beautiful.

This Geongyejeong Pavilion is a splendid place where the surrounding trees, cherry blossoms, and flowing water blend well together, so it is a place where the sages would sit in this pavilion and write a poem while drinking a glass of makgeolli.

These pavilions are located in scenic places as a place to read fortunes, enjoy quiet contemplation, or hold poetry meetings.

In the case of Chinese poetry, if you write a five-character poem or a seven-character poem, you must include the scenery in the third and fourth lines (Hamryeon) and the emotion in the fifth and sixth lines (Gyeongryeon). Therefore, if you want to include scenery, there must be a pavilion in a place with a beautiful scenery.

I will write related Chinese poetry later.
