Namwon Gwanghanru in Jeollabuk-do

Gwanghallu was originally a place where Prime Minister Hwang Hui built a small pavilion called ‘Gwangtongu (廣通樓)’ to enjoy the scenery when he was exiled to Namwon in 1419. Later, in the 26th year of King Sejong’s reign (1444), Namwon-busa Min Gong rebuilt it, and Hadong-buwon-gun Jeong In-ji, who was the patrolman of Chungcheong, Jeolla, Gyeongsang and three provinces at the time, was so captivated by the beautiful scenery here that he renamed it ‘Gwanghallu’ after ‘Gwanghancheongheobu’ in the moon palace where the beauty of the moon, Hanga, lived. Gwanghan means ‘palace of the moon’. Chunhyang and Yi Mong-ryong also met for the first time here and fell in love.
